Comet Lulin C/2007 is a non-periodic comet which will only return in a million years!
First photographed by Lin Chi-Sheng with a 0.41M telescope at the Lulin Observatory in Taiwan. However it was a 19 year old Ye Quanzhi from China who identified the new object from 3 Lulin plates.
According to NASA, the comet's green colour comes from diatomic carbon which appears as a green glow when illuminated. The comet was shedding 800 gallons of water a second when this image was taken.
Image Detail: A lucky sequence of stacked full colour images taken bewtween breaks in the clouds.
Scope: Williams Megrez 90mm @ F/6.9 (FL=621mm)
Camera: ST2000XMC @ -20 deg C.
Guiding: Internal with CCDSoft
Exposures: Colour 3 x 600 sec
Binning: 1x1
Processing: Images Plus / Ps CS / - Cropped image.
Location: North Sydney suburban backyard.
